340 OBSTETRIC EMERGENCIES
Monitor the airway.
Administer oxygen.
Place the patient in a LEFT lateral recumbent position.
If the patient is immobilized, elevate the right side of the long board a few inches.
Assess for shock and treat, if appropriate. (See Protocol #315.)
For Special Considerations, request Advanced Life Support assistance, and see below.
Transport in accordance with first response
agency policy.
NOTE: | HYPERTENSION IN A PREGNANT PATIENT IS CONSIDERED SEVERE IF THE SYSTOLIC PRESSURE IS 160 mm Hg OR HIGHER OR THE DIASTOLIC PRESSURE IS 110 mm Hg OR HIGHER. |
Keep the mother calm, avoid loud noises, and
keep in dim light.
