313 SEIZURES

Protect the patient from injury.

Monitor the airway.

Do NOT force anything into the patient's mouth.

Attempt to position the patient to maintain airway patency.

Observe spinal injury precautions, if appropriate. (See Protocol #321.)

Avoid unnecessary or excessive restraint.

Administer oxygen.

Monitor breathing for adequacy.

Request Advanced Life Support assistance for ongoing seizures at time of patient contact.

Treat all injuries as appropriate.

NOTE:IF POSSIBLE, OBTAIN THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
  • THE NUMBER OF SEIZURES;
  • THE PART OF THE BODY WHERE THE SEIZURE BEGAN, IF WITNESSED;
  • THE LENGTH OF THE SIZURE

Transport in accordance with first response agency policy.
