324 ABDOMINAL INJURIES
Monitor the airway.
Administer oxygen.
Monitor breathing for adequacy.
Control external bleeding.
Assess for shock and treat, if appropriate. (See Protocol #315.)
For Special Considerations, see below.
Transport in accordance with first response
agency policy.
Do NOT replace the protruding organ.
Place moistened, sterile dressings over the protruding organ.
Do NOT pour fluid directly onto the wound.
Secure dry, bulky dressings over the moistened dressings.
An occlusive dressing may be placed as the final layer to maintain body heat.
Position the patient appropriately with knees
slightly bent.
IMPALED OBJECTS
Request additional assistance.
Do NOT remove the object.
