The second edition of the Regional Emergency MedicalAdvisory Committee (REMAC) of New York City Basic and AdvancedLife Support Prehospital Treatment Protocols is the culminationof the efforts of many individuals who have served on the RegionalEmergency Medical Advisory Committee of New York City, the RegionalEmergency Medical Advisory Committee Basic Life Support Subcommittee,and the Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee AdvancedLife Support Subcommittee. This document reflects the changingfield of out-of-hospital emergency medicine and the continuousattempts of the emergency medical and trauma communities in allprovider sectors (municipal, voluntary hospital, proprietary,and volunteer), acting in concert, to provide high-quality, state-of-the-art,out-of-hospital emergency medical care to emergently ill and injuredadults and children in the New York City region.

The task of updating, editing, revising, and reconcilingthe Basic Life Support Protocols, both the Emergency Medical Technicianand the Certified First Responder Protocols, was the work of theBasic Life Support Subcommittee, chaired by Carl Nolte, MD andthe Basic Life Support Protocol Subcommittee, chaired by ArthurCooper, MD. The following individuals served on the Subcommittee:
