422 NECK INJURIES

NOTE:BE ALERT FOR AIRWAY PROBLEMS AND CERVICAL SPINE INJURIES.

Monitor the airway.

Observe spinal injury precautions. (See Protocol #421.)

Administer oxygen.

Monitor breathing for adequacy.

Control external bleeding.

Seal the wound with an occlusive dressing.

Do NOT bandage completely around the neck.

Assess for shock and treat, if appropriate. (See Protocol #415.)

Transport. (See Appendix F.)
