558 PEDIATRIC TRAUMATIC/HYPOVOLEMIC SHOCK

In pediatric patients with decompensated traumatic/hypovolemic shock:

  1. Begin Basic Life Support Pediatric Shock procedures.

    During transport, or if transport is delayed:

  2. Begin rapid IV (IO) infusion of Ringer's Lactate (RL) 20 ml/kg via a large bore IV (18-22 gauge) or IO catheter. Attempt IV or IO only once each. (See Appendix J.)

  3. Contact Medical Control for implementation of one or more of the following options:


MEDICAL CONTROL OPTIONS

OPTION A:
Repeat Ringer's Lactate (RL) 20 ml/kg rapid IV (IO) infusion.(See Appendix J.)

OPTION B:
Begin rapid IV (IO) infusion of Ringer's Lactate 20 ml/kg, via a second large bore IV (18-22 gauge) or IO catheter. Attempt second IV or IO only once each. (See Appendix J.)

OPTION C:
Transportation decision.
