1. Begin Basic Life Support Burns procedures.

2. For patients with electrical burns, begin Cardiac Monitoring, record and evaluate the EKG.

3. Begin an IV infusion of Ringer's Lactate (RL) or Dextrose 5% in water (D5W) only if:
   a. Transportation to the hospital will exceed 30 minutes (administer Ringer's Lactate).
   OR

   b. An IV is necessary for the treatment of associated medical or surgical problems (administer Dextrose 5% in water or Ringer's Lactate).
