Description

Furosemide is a potent diuretic that inhibits the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the proximal tubule and loop of Henle.

Onset:
(PO) 30-60 min (IV) Within 15-20 min
Duration:
4-6 hr

Pulmonary edema
Congestive heart failure

Anuria
Hypersensitivity
States of severe electrolyte depletion

Adverse Reactions

Hypotension
ECG changes
Chest pain
Dry mouth
Hypochloremia
Hypokalemia
Hyponatremia
Hyperglycemia


FUROSEMIDE (LASIX)
Drug Interactions

Digitalis toxicity may be potentiated by the potassium depletion that can result from furosemide administration.
Lithium toxicihy may be potentiated by sodium depletion.
Compatible with D5W, NS, LR solutions.

How Supplied

Tablet:
20, 40, 80 mg
Parenteral:
10 mg/ml in 2-ml ampule, 100 mg/ml in 10-ml vial

FUROSEMIDE (LASIX)
Dosage and Administration

Adult:
0.5-1.0 mg/kg IV injected slowly
Pediatric:
1 mg/kg/dose q 12 hr

FUROSEMIDE (LASIX)
Special Considerations

Pregnancy safety: Category C.
Furosemide has been known to cause fetal abnormalities.
Should be protected from light.
