Wiring

The wiring is what you put between the machines in order to connect them.

Twisted Pair -- Tunshielded wire, identical to a telephone wiring. Advantages: cheap, easy to snake through, supports a nice bandwidth. Bandwidth refers to the amount of information that can flow through the wire. Disadvantages: unshielded, subject to interface.
Shielded Wire (Coaxial cable) -- Coaxial cable contains an electrical wire and is constructed to permit high speed data transmission. It is less prone to interference. Advantages: cheap Disadvantages: you can't really make tight corners, it snaps inside when you bend it.
Fiber-optics -- carriers carry their data as laser-generated light beams. It much more secure to use fiber optic than the twisted pair and coaxial it is much more difficult for computer criminals to intercept a signal sent over a fiber optic cable. Fiber optic cables carry data faster and are lighter than the copper wire. Twisted pair wire and coaxial cable carry data as electrical signals.
Thick Ethernet -- another form of cable wiring. It is very difficult to lay down, but it has an extremely high bandwidth.
